large dinosaur like alien creatures - roughly resembling a Brontosaurus;
Stegosaurus and T-Rex are about to attack blond
haired guy with Space Rifle and knapsack. Signed
Freas at the bottom of the guy's back. Horizontal format. approx. 9.5" by 5".

reminiscent of the famous MARS ATTACKS card set from circa 1960. Space
Aliens with four eyes (Martians???) firing raygun at fleeing humanoids.

Classic looking Space Gun. The aliens have octopus like heads and
tentacles. What more could you want? no wonder this guy
is such a Sci-Fi icon! signed

Kelly Freas science fiction painting for the interior from THE
MERCENARY by Jerry Pournelle (John Christian Falkenberg). very
colorful and large. Shows naked alien
female with long tail and wild hairdo, an alien that resembles a giant
brain walking on octopus tentacles and a Mercenary
warrior with space rifle on shoulder, Mohawk style hairdo and a Skull and
crossbones tattoo on his shoulder.
PLEASE NOTE: in
2005 the Author Jerry Pournelle wrote the following in his obituary homage to
Kelly Freas (click
here to view the quote on his website):
"........... Kelly did the illustrations for my first published
science fiction stories, both short fiction and my novel Spaceship For The King;
indeed he did illustrations for that several times, both interior illustrations
and the cover for Analog, then for the DAW books publication, for the British
edition, and for a consolidated novel including other stories. He later showed
me the sketches he had done for that book, and gave me a couple of them. The
sketches showed just how closely he had read the novel. Kelly never did anything
by halves.
His interior illustration for "The Mercenary", the first of my
Falkenberg stories, actually influenced the way I saw my own character; Kelly
may have paid more attention to some of the details than I had..........."
