Minor League and Semi-Pro

program.  12/2/34.  WESTWOOD CUBS vs DEL REY SHAMROCKS.  Pacific Football League (professional league).  Westwood was led by Joe Lillard & Joe Keeble.  Lillard,  had played in the NFL a year earlier, but 1934 was the first year of the unofficial ban on black players in that league - a policy that continued until the end of World War II, and indirectly aided pro football entrepreneurs on the West Coast, who weren't as "principled" about hiring blacks, and as a result benefited from the presence of Lillard.  (for more information click here).  16 pages.  some photos.  tight and clean.  someone dated it, and wrote the team names in upper right corner of cover.  overall excellent and VERY scarce!   325.00

PATERSON "PANTHERS".   we are offering the 1936 programs from the PATERSON "PANTHERS" home games, played at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson New Jersey. Beginning in 1936, the N.F.L. had an associated minor league, called the American Association, which included a varying membership of six to nine teams in the Northeast.  1n 1935, The Panthers were the Eastern Independent Champions (a fact attested to on the cover of each program.  They were coached by ex-NFL star HAP MORAN.   In 1930 Moran set the NFL record for the longest run from scrimmage,  in 1931 he was the Giants scoring leader, and in 1933 he set the NFL record for the most yards receiving in a single game. After retiring from the NFL he played for the Paterson Panthers of the American Association, and coached the Panthers in 1936.  (for more information, click here).  These are all in extremely nice condition and are VERY SCARCE!  You may never see another program for some of these teams!

program.  9/23/69.  SEATTLE RANGERS at SACRAMENTO CAPITOLS.  Continental Professional Football League.  played at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento California.  26 pages.  photos of all the Sacramento players and some of the Seattle players.  color photo of 5 players and the cheerleaders on the cover.  Minor notations written inside.  overall excellent plus.  Hard to find!  24.00

SEATTLE CAVALIERS.  these items came from the estate of Elmo Hudgens - founder of the team and a major influence on semi-pro football in the Pacific Northwest.   decals made in 1945.  previously unknown in the hobby.  all are mint, never used.  (his wife had a note on the outside envelope: "1945 - Elmo's Decals - he was SO happy with these).
